Our whole community is strengthened when you get involved.
With only 30 minutes, you could help change a child’s life forever. Working one-on-one as a Reading Buddy helps struggling readers improve their confidence, develop a love for reading, and puts them on a path for ongoing academic success. And listening to a Guest Reader brings a story to life and helps kids see the importance of reading for all ages. It’s as simple as showing up, reading books with kids, and having fun. Or, if you want to work behind the scenes, we have a place for you too!

Guest Readers:
Guest Readers read a book to the class and interact with students in the classroom during a 20-minute visit. These volunteers make reading connections to daily life, show students that the community cares and assist teachers in literacy support through modeling a love for reading. Sessions are scheduled as volunteers are available (primarily on our Guest Reader Days, one Friday of each month, but other days if needed). |
Reading Buddies:
Reading Buddies focus on helping a specific student in a 30-minute weekly session— there is a relationship aspect built through continuity and time to connect. Mentors are equipped with training to help students overcome fear or frustration with reading and move towards reading at grade level. |
Behind the Scenes/Events:
These volunteers help with behind-the-scenes projects to support our efforts at Evart Elementary, and the Evart Reads mission. Volunteers can work on projects at special events or at home as available. |
