The Read Around Town Project: extending literacy from the classroom into the community.
What if everywhere our kids went, they heard the message that reading is important?
Through a grant from the Osceola Community Foundation, Evart Elementary School was given money towards books to be placed throughout the community, at businesses where children might linger. These local "Book Partners" have books available for Evart Elementary students, labeled with reading level, and ready for kids to read and take home. Kids just need to ask at the counter about the Read Around Town project, identify their reading level (by color or grade), and enjoy the book! It's a win-win situation . . . kids get books to read, and community members get to be a part of the excitement of a new book! And, when we make books available to kids wherever they go, it lets our kids know that books aren't just for school-- they're part of our everyday lives!
